First off let me say that I will have another project to post soon. I have to finish some stuff up for PTI and new Doodle Factory images to mount and play with along with more pictures to show you from the stamp and scrap show. So I will be busy! I just wanted to talk a little bit about collections. I find the idea of collecting things quite interesting. I find the types of things that people collect extremely interesting. My neighbor for example. She has the coolest collection of chickens. She also has a lot of things from the 50’s. I think that lends itself so well to a particular type of design and they have mastered it. We collect things around here as well. John collects postage stamps and has a large collection of both US and especially German stamps which he was working on last night. He also collects books, especially German books which can be hard to find places for sometimes. A lot of them are hiding in the attic at the moment. I collect more than stamps, ribbon and cardstock as well. John and I both have a love for pottery and historic redware from Pennsylvania and Germany. I also used to collect Longaberger baskets and have been to Ohio several times to see them being made. I have sinced stopped buying them because I have been running out of places to put them, but they
are still indeed a collection. These are just some examples of our collections.
I also have a collection of samplers and milk bottles
also German Smokers. These are one of my favorite things to collect. They have such great personality.
and BOXES! You KNOW I love boxes. So the point of this post is to find out what YOU all love to collect. I really do find it interesting and would LOVE to know! So please share what interests YOU!! Maybe it is antique whirlygigs or animals or stuffed animals or SOMETHING! I would love to know! What special things are a reflection of YOU! Thanks in advance for sharing!

This is a really interesting post. What IS interesting ,is why people collect what they collect. I started collecting pitchers….. but that’s not quite what I was going for. It’s the bountiful vessel that pours things; that’s more what appealed to me. I love teapots too; hmmmm what did I mean. Then, a friend from church told me she collects “things that pour”. That opened up a whole new area. She has all kinds of things that pour; pitchers, teapots, watering cans, etc. etc. When my friend bought her vacation home, she was going to move a lot of her collection to the new place because she was running out of space. They had to sell an investment property to buy the vacation home; I suggested she call it ” The Pour House”. She did!

Such interesting collections. I collect Hummels, decorated eggs and egg cups and angel Christmas tree ornaments. My hubby collects logo golf balls from different golf courses and Santas. At Christmas we have a tree upstairs that is decorated just with my angel ornaments and downstairs we decorate with my hubby’s Santas.Of course I also have my stamp collection…rubber stamps that is!

The mascot of my sorority is a ladybug so I love to collect ladybugs. Although my dear hubby bought me a really hideous one when we were dating. He knew I didn’t like it and I gave him permission to return it and get his money back. I also have a large teacup collection – mostly blue and white. I think this is funny b/c I don’t care for hot tea at ALL! Being a southern girl, it’s all about SWEET ICED tea!! Hubby would say I collect shoes and clothes

Very interesting Becky! Since having children my collecting days have taken a vacation of sorts . .. but I LOVE dishes! I have a set of LuRay (from the 30’s and 40’s – here’s an pic (scroll down to the 2nd pic) http://www.speakeasy.org/~duchess/pottads1.html), a nice collection of Blue Ridge Pottery and various other dish sets. I also have a collection of cream & green enamelware and cream & green handled kitchen utensils. My very first collection when I was young was magnets – I still have most of them! Interesting! 🙂

Fun post, Becky! I collect chickens, too.

Very cool. Your home seems so warm and inviting. I would expect nothing less. A long time ago I collected giraffes (but I got over that, thank goodness!). I LOVE my green Jadeite Fire King items (bowls, mugs, plates etc). I don’t have too many as they are pricey but that just means I treasure them all the more. I also have a collection of cake plates which I adore and gorgeous old teacups. Since we moved to this house they haven’t been properly displayed but I hope to solve that problem one day. Your collections are awesome. TFS.

Hi, I collect Dalmation “stuff.” Not the disney stuff and not the real dogs! Just stuff with dalmations on them. It is fun to try and find special stuff. I love your collections!

It is so interesting to see what everyone collects. I went thru a collecting phase and then when we downsized to a condo…most everything went. I collected teddy bears (Steiff mostly), Coca Cola anything, toothpick holders, tea cups, Boyd’s bears and a very long time ago I was a stamp collector too (postage kind). Sometimes I wish I had my things back but they were really getting too much work to keep dusted. I love all of your things Becky!

I collect children 🙂

So what exactly are German smokers? Just curious!
Well, I collect Coca-Cola memorabilia. Started with a few pieces I bought at yard sales while I was in junior high (with $ I earned from babysitting). I’d really love to collect vintage hats, too, but only have 2 at this point.

Thanks for sharing pictures. I love seeing stuff like this! I collect miniatures and display them in a printers box hung on the wall. I love it. I like to buy one or 2 things from my travels (nothing expensive but something cute that will remind me of my trip) and display them. My MIL is a huge collector so she is always buying me little things for me… I would love to know what German Smokers are too – they are very cool!

I collect old cranberry glass. I find it very interesting what people collect. I am not into dishes or teapots or any other kind of glass. I can’t remember how I got started, it was so long ago. Finding unique and affordable pieces can be a real challenge but I think I collect because I love the challenge of looking for and the joy of finding a piece for the collection.

What a fun post with lots of interesting collections. My sister got me hooked on collecting Santas and my aunt passed down a tradition to me of collecting sand dollars. That is probably my all time favorite…..who wouldn’t enjoy a walk on the beach looking for shells. I can feel the sun on my face with the ocean breeze blowing through my hair and the peaceful serene sound of the waves breaking. Can you tell I like the ocean! Thanks for sharing your collections with everyone.

does DUST count? *lol* Okay so I don’t purposely collect dust…it just happens. Anyways, I am very fascinated with collections too. We have lots of German Christmas ornaments (DH was born in Germany–but a Canadian citizen). I WISH I could collect more but because we have to move every 2-6 years it’s hard to collect things when I don’t know what kind of space we will live in (we don’t always choose our house). I think it is bad enough that I have a room dedicated to craft supplies. DH would kill me if I added more collections *smiles*

I used to collect a lot of things, but now that I think of it, the only colelction I’m currently working on are postage stamps, but not so seriously (I don’t have any older than myself, lol).
Do rubberstamps count? ;D

What great collections! I am an avid collector of Santas, teapots and mismatched antique china pieces that need a good home 🙂 It’s always interesting to see what others collect. Fun post!

Love your photos. I have been collecting music boxes since I was 13 and I have too many to count. I do know that I have 200 that I bring out at Christmas time when I put away the other 200+ that I have out the rest of the year. It has been a wonderful thing to collect because they have such specific designs to certain areas. Thanks for asking.

Its always interesting to hear about peoples’ collections. i collect Wizard of Oz memorabilia (both from the movie and the book (pre-1940’s). My husband would also say that I collect shoes and purses but that’s not really a collection but more like a shopping obsession. 🙂 Anyway – thanks for sharing your stories and photos! I am an admirer of Longaberger baskets myself; such quality!!

I don’t collect anything now, except maybe stamps and dust, LOL! I stopped because I hate clutter and dusting and I have a very tiny thing! When I was a kid I used to collect tiny carved elephant statues. It means “Good Luck” if their trunk is up. Well–wait a minute–I do collect something at Christmas time. I have a collection of St. Nicholas statues that I put on my mantle. That’s what I collect!
April 9, 2008 at 9:30 pm
PS–gosh–I used to collect stamps too and I still have my collection. Every time I think I will get rid of it I look through it and then I buy more stamps or think I could never get rid of them so there you go–I have a postage stamp collection, a St. Nicholas collection, a rubber stamp collection and a *very* big dust collection, ha ha!

I am a collector too. I have a big collection of Depression Glass Kitchen items like juicers (reamers) spice containers,S&P shakers, bowls etc. Mostly green class and jadeite with a little Amber and Cobalt too. They are almost all contained in a glass fronted cupboard with glass shelves..we haul it all out every couple of years to dust…but if you don’t move anything the shelves look sand blasted LMAO! I don;t collect it any more as there is no more room and I don;t want it all over the house.
What I love is when people come over they ohhh and ahhh and point out the items they had in their homes growing up! I am still seeking the elusive and totally too expensive Black Witches Hat Reamer. (Kidding…I couldn’t afford it!)
I also love serving dishes..and collect little small serving dishes when I travel..OK..I also collect very large serving dishes when I travel too but getting them home is always an issue.
Neat topic!

Becky,
I love that you shared with us. I have several sets of dishes (four so far) I love dishes and glassware, so you could say I collect it. I also love WILLOW figurines (like these http://www.willowtreeshop.com/cat-willow-tree-figurine.html) and have a few shelves of them. But the thing I love most is Christmas Ornaments. I have some that were my grandmothers, and I have them from all over the world, in my travels and friends too, some that I made as a child, and some that my son made. I often tell my husband I should get a more mature tree…. but the tree is so ME – old and new, bright and delicate… everything that intertwines to make holidays wonderful – memories of holidays past. Thanks for making me smile! em

That’s a great question, Beck! I love taking a peek inside your home. I used to collect Longaberger baskets too when I lived in Texas. My gf sold them to supplement their income. Her DH hadn’t worked in years so I bought the baskets to uh-hum, “help them out”. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! LOL! In my last house, I did a Rooster theme in my kitchen, but not sure if I want to keep that theme going on in the new house. Mainly what I collect now is STAMPS! Ha ha! Lots and lots of them in all shapes, sizes and manufacturers!
